New School Funding To be Approved Tonight

Tonight at the City Council we will be approving an additional $500,000 of city funding for our public schools as part of our efforts to address some critical educational needs and to make more progress towards our goal of meeting our net school spending requirements.  This funding will be used to buy new textbooks, pay for educational technology and to provide some additional school counselors at North High School.  I want to thank Mayor Petty for his leadership in bringing together the City Manager and the School Superintendant to identify additional resources for our schools.  I also want to thank the City Council and especially Councilor Bill Eddy who helped push efforts last month to find these additional funds to meet the needs of our school children.  We will be talking more about these efforts and also about developing a long term strategic plan for school capital and operations needs at our next joint meeting on Monday, February 11th at 7:30 PM at Nelson Place School
